A GROUNDING MANTRA

A Grounding Mantra helps you remain calm and to moderate your actions and reactions in triggering situations — whether the situation is highly tempting or highly repulsive in nature.

This kind of mantra protects you from making rash, ego-driven decisions or taking knee-jerk harmful actions based on intense, blinding desires to get something or avoid something.

A Powerful Grounding Mantra to Use

Shantideva, an 8th century Indian Buddhist monk, in his writing, Bodhisattvacaryāvatāra (The Way of the Bodhisattva), wrote to be “like a log” when triggered or tempted.

If you feel yourself in a bad situation or being insulted or trolled or yelled at…repeat to yourself…

”Be like a log. ”

“Be like a log.”

“Be like a log.”

Why? Because a log is heavy. Hard to move. Inert.

And that is how you will be when you ground yourself with this mantra.

Imperturbable to both low and high emotion triggering circumstances.

Unsusceptible to the triggering bait of negative situations.

Unsusceptible to the triggering bait of enticements to desires.

Neither low nor high.

So I recommend you use Shantideva’s time-tested proven action of, “Be like a log” as your grounding mantra.

It will serve you well.
